The course provides a comprehensive introduction to bone health and covers acquisition of bone images via x-ray densitometry examinations. The first chapter of the course covers ethics for technologists performing x-ray densitometry examinations and compares and contrasts the Code of Ethics of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and the International Society of Bone Densitometry (ISCD). The impact of low bone mass diseases and conditions and osteoporosis is discussed with specific chapters covering adults, men, and children and adolescents. Recognized treatment guidelines for osteoporosis are presented in the course.
A review of skeletal anatomy presents the anatomic areas of concern for bone densitometry technologists.
