Course Description

Ultrasonography (US) is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and other national and international health organizations as a safe and effective diagnostic imaging modality. Compared to other imaging modalities such as radiography and computed tomography, Ultrasonography is inexpensive, portable, and operator friendly. Ultrasonography is a non-ionizing radiation modality that delivers diagnostic quality images without a radiation dose to the patient. This feature makes US an ideal modality for evaluating gynecological conditions. The goal of this course is to provide information about the utilization of US examinations in the diagnostic evaluation of pelvic masses, dysfunctional, and infective diseases that involve the pelvis. Technological advances that ultrasonography has made it possible to use transabdominal scanning with transvaginal or transrectal techniques.

This course is based on Chapter 3 of the book Manual of Diagnostic Ultrasound: Volume 2, 2nd edition, edited by Elisabetta Buscarini, Harald Lutz, and Paoletta Mirk (ISBN: 9789241548540). The PDF is 465 pages long and 6 x 9.5 inches in size. Chapter 3 has 60 pages.
